Postville Herald, Thursday, 14 July 1921.
Leo Courtney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Courtney of Decorah, a lad of about sixteen years, was drowned in the Upper Iowa river Saturday night when he got out in a very swift current and was taken by cramps and sank. He cried for help and others went to his assistance, but the current was so swift and he struggled so hard that they could not save him. The body was recovered in a very few minutes afterward and everything done to resuscitate him, but without avail.
