Walter O. Sorenson
A memorial service for Walter O. Sorenson, 77, of Decorah were held May 25, at 10 a.m. at Oneota Riverview Care Facility, with Rev. Kristen Kvamme officiating.
Organist was Elaine Kuennen. The French and Balik Funeral Home of Decorah was in charge of arrangements.
Walter O. Sorenson was born Jan. 25, 1916 in Pleasant Township of Winneshiek County, the son of Bendick and Susan (Dinger) Sorenson. He was educated in rural schools. He married Vennetta Hughes in 1945 in California.
Mr. Sorenson lived in California for a couple years, then moved back to Iowa. He worked for the Oldsmobile dealer in Decorah. He also later worked for Taylor Construction, and then in bridge construction. The couple resided in Knoxville, before moving back to this area in 1982.
He later became a resident of Oneota. He died there May 21, 1993, following a long illness.
Survivors include a daughter, Darlene Ellingson of Ridgeway; two brothers, Raymond Sorenson of Decorah and Sylvester Sorenson of Preston, Minn.; a sister, Clara Tonne of Waterville, Minn.; three grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; five brothers, John Sorenson, Melvin Sorenson, Ervin Sorenson, Vernon Sorenson and Oscar Sorenson; and one sister, Ethel Vick.
