Otis A. Rustad, 63, dies May 26
Funeral services for Otis Abraham Rustad, 63, a retired area truck driver, were held Wednesday, May 29 at 1 p.m.at St. John's Lutheran Church in Locust, Ia.
Mr. Rustad died at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital following a four month battle with cancer.
Sensor-French Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements, with burial at Washington Prairie Cemetery. The Rev. Gerhard Brase conducted the services. Al Sensor was organist, accompanying congregational singing. Pallbearers were Palmer Anderson, Lloyd Wohlford, Palmer Ruffridge, Marlin Sullivan, Harry Lensch and Ruel Headington.
Otis A. Rustad was born July 21, 1921, in Winneshiek County, a son of Abe and Olena (Lomen) Rustad. He was educated through eighth grade and served in the United States Army, part of the time overseas. He married the former Mary Ellen Harvey at St. John's Church at Locust on Sept. 14, 1952.
He had lived in Winneshiek County his entire life and had farmed until 1964. At that time he moved to town, working at Bruening Rock Products and Juve Inc. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and served on the church council. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Decorah.
Survivors include his wife Mary Ellen; five children, Kathie and Kristie, both of Decorah; Wendy of Council Bluffs, Ronald at home, and Gary of La Crosse, Wis.; three sisters Mrs. Allen (Virginia) Holkesvik of Decorah, Mrs. Charles (Lucille) Tollefsrud of Hiawatha, and Mrs. Bob (Shirley) Brooks of Houston, Tex.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. William Stenseth of Calmar, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Abe and Olena, two brothers, Russell and Edward, and one sister, Adeline.
