Phoebe Ann Gardner Dies at Home of Her Daughter in Castalia
Phoebe Ann Gardner passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C.R. Winn, of Castalia, Monday morning, March 16.
As Phoebe Ann Doty, daughter of Levi and Rebecca Doty, she was born near Delhi, Iowa, January 6, 1851. Her early life was spent on a farm with her parents.
On June 15, 1870 she was united in marriage to John F. Fox. Six children were born to the union, Mrs. Bertha Walker of Monticello, Ark,; who preceded her in death; Mrs. Anna Dowd, Ottumwa; John E. Fox of Billings, Mont.; who also preceded her in death; Charles of Gary, Ind.; Mrs. C.R. Winn, of Castalia; and Mrs. Alex Morrow of Glenwood, Ill.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1906. On September 1, 1908 she was united in marriage to Eli Gardner at Boscobel, Wis. He passed away in 1934.
She is survived by her four children, one step-daughter, Mabel Gardner of McGregor; two sisters, Mrs. Jacob Yearous of Elgin, Iowa, and Mrs. Alvira Mootes of Eagle Grove, Iowa. Ten grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon from the home with Rev. W.M. Suckow in charge of the services. Burial will be made in Pleasant Ridge cemetery.
