John Franklin Fox was born at New Milton, Doddridge County, West Virginia, December 6, 1849, and died at Castalia, Iowa, april 28, 1906, aged 56 years, 4 months, 22 days. He was married to Phoebe A. Doty of Delhi, Iowa, June 26, 1870. To them were born six children, four girls and two boys, all of whom, together with three sisters and three brothers [possibly more] survive him, this being the first death of the immediate family. John has been a self-denying, hard working man, seeming strong until about the last month of his life. He united with the United Brethren church in Castalia in 1897 and remained a member to the time of his death. John was a man of sterling integrity and no one could truthfully say that he had willfully wronged anyone. For several years he has had charge of the county road work in this supervisor district. The funeral occurred from the U[nited] B[rethren] church here [Castalia], Tuesday, May 1st., the Rev. Mongomery officiating. The body was interred at Pleasant View cemetery. the bereaved family have the sympathy of all in their sad affliction.
