Dawn Lechtenberg, age 63, of Festina, IA, died Thursday, June 27, 2013, at her home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 1, 2013, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina, IA.

Friends may call from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m., Sunday at the Schluter- Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel in Calmar, IA. There will be a scripture service at 3:00 and a rosary at 4:00 on Sunday. There will also be visitation from 9:30 – 10:30 at the funeral home on Monday morning in Calmar.

Dawn Marie (Brockway) Lechtenberg was born on February 27, 1950, the daughter of Donald and Rosemary (Cline) Brockway in West Union, Iowa. Dawn attended Dover #6 country school, Postville Schools and graduated from South Winneshiek High School in 1968. She attended Young Beauty School in Waterloo and then taught there also. She was united in marriage to Larry Lechtenberg on December 22, 1969, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina. Dawn was as a beautician in Postville, at Ann’s Beauty Shop in Decorah, Judy’s in Calmar and at Jane’s in Ossian. For the last twenty-seven years, she worked at Rockwell Collins in Decorah until her health forced her to quit. Dawn was a wonderful baker and cook and enjoyed playing cards. Dawn enjoyed visiting and seeing family at family reunions. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and loved her grandchildren who called her “Nana”.

Dawn is survived by her husband: Larry Lechtenberg, Festina, IA. One daughter: Heidi (friend, Bryan Foster) Whitehouse, Knoxville, TN. Two grandchildren: Alexa and Mason Whitehouse. One sister: Jeri (Tom) Humpal, Calmar, IA. Three brothers: Donald (Kay) Brockway, Preston, MN; Larry (Kathy) Brockway, Castalia, IA; and Gary (Lori) Brockway, Postville, IA. Aunt: Betty Cline and uncle: Walt (Dorothy) Brockway, both of Waterloo, IA. Her mother-in-law: Phyllis Lechtenberg, Ossian, IA. Sisters and brothers-in-law: Alan (Kathy) Lechtenberg, Calmar, IA; Lois (Gary) Frana, Calmar, IA; Joan (Gary) Winings, Dover, Delaware; Lora (Dave) Kuhn, Anamosa, IA; and Vernelle (Floyd) Hackman, Fort Atkinson, IA, along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her favorite dog, Jax, and all of her special friends at Rockwell Collins.

Dawn was preceded in death by her parents: Donald and Rosemary (Cline) Brockway. Her two children: Kimberly in 1972 and Cory in 1978. Her father-in-law: Theodore Lechtenberg.
