Funeral services for T. Amelia Hjelmeland,76, retired Winneshiek County Deputy Clerk of Court, were held Monday, May 12, at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Decorah.
Mrs. Hjelmeland died May 7 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah. Pastor Glenn L. Borreson conducted the services, with burial at the Lutheran Cemetery. Organist was Pastor Glenn L. Borreson, accompanying congregational singing.
Steine's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Kenneth Nesset, Robert J. Sand, Julian Moe, Floyd S. Pearson, Robert J. Ward, and Joseph C. Keefe. Honorary pallbearers were Dorothy Haugen, Henrietta Roberts, Leo and Francis Houdek, Mildred Christen, Naomi O'Neil, Ruth Gavle, Ruth Ellingson, Carrie Wurtzel, Beth Ingvoldstad, Dorothy Emmons, Tjeran and Stella Heggen, Wayne and Becky Remmen, Milton and Arleen Young, Elaine Ward and Mary Fierfeil.
Amelia Espeseth was born June 26, 1909, in Decorah, the daughter of Claus and Gunhild (Wemark) Espeseth. She graduated from Decorah Senior High School and married Conrad Hjelmeland Aug. 6, 1940 at the Rev. Tolo home in Decorah. He preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 1967.
She had worked for attorney C.N. Houck and also worked with the Miller-Pearson firm. She was Winneshiek County Deputy Clerk of Court and was a member of the Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid.
She is survived by a son, David Hjelmeland of Atlanta, Ga., and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one sister.
