Leonard Broghammer, 90

Cresco- Memorial services for Leonard D. Broghammer of Cresco, IA will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at Notre Dame Church in Cresco.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Conway Funeral Home in Cresco with a closed casket, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Conway Funeral Home in Cresco is handling the arrangements.

Leonard, 90, died Saturday, June 27, 2009 at his home.

Leonard Donald Broghammer was born February 19, 1919, in Ridgeway, IA, the son of Simon C. and Mae Florence (Hauber) Broghammer. He attended school in Spillville and graduated from Cresco High School and continued his education at Hamilton Business College in Mason City, IA. He entered the Army in November 1942 until February 1946. He was in the European Theatre in WWII serving under General Patton and was awarded a marksmanship medal. Leonard was an honored salesman for Fuller Brush, Sears & Roebuck Co, Ford Motor Company in Decorah, and International Harvester. He purchased the Home Improvemment Business in Cresco, from Bonzer and Bryan in 1962 and retired in 1982. After retirement, Leonard drove the Howard-Winneshiek School bus for 20 years and received an award for the oldest school bus driver in the history of the State of Iowa.

On December 24, 1943, he married Margaret Miskimins in Colorado Springs, CO. To this union four children were born, Jane, Judy, Mark and Mike.

He was a member of VFW, Elks, Cresco Chamber of Commerce, Wild Life Club, Snowmobile Club, Cresco Country Club, and Cyclone Wrestling Charter Member and served on the City Council.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Cresco, IA; two daughters: Jane (Mike) Davis of South Coffyville, OK, and Judy (Jim) Wengryn of Fort Dodge, IA; two sons: Mark of West Des Moines, IA, and Mike (Jane) Broghammer of Cedar Rapids, IA; eight grandchildren: Tarrell (Lisa) Davis, Aaron (Kimberly) Davis, Tressa (Nicholas) Williams; Katie (Jamie) Allison, Julie (John) Gaffey, Kelly Wengryn; Molly Broghammer and Racheal Broghammer, and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents: and one sister: Marguerite Beard.
