Mrs Martha Hanson of this City Passes Away

Mrs Martha E. Hanson of this city passed away at 2:15 P.M. Friday July 26 1929 at her home at 710 West Main street. Old age was the cause of her death. She had been in poor health for the past year and was confined to her bed about a month before her death. Funeral services will held yesterday afternoon, July 30th at 2 o'clock at the home and 2:30 o'clock at the F.N.E.L. Church. Rev. Paul Koren officiated in the absence of Rev. Torrison and interment was made in the Lutheran Cemetery.

Martha Sevenson was born September 17, 1847 in Norway and was the daughter of Knute and Guri Sevenson. She came to this country and to the State of Wisconsin in the year 1854 at the age of eight. When twelve years old she moved with her parents to Calmar, where her father was called by Rev. Koren to sing in the Lutheran Church. On March 17 1865, in Decorah, she united in marriage with Edward Hanson. Five daughters and four sons were born to this union. Three sons survive, namely Herman of Fargo, N.D., Ben of Freeport, Ill. and Lewis of Decorah. Mrs. Hanson is also survived by two grandchildren, Mrs. Roy Dinger (nee Peggy Hanson) and Harvey Hanson, who have made their home with her since they were little children, and two sisters, Mrs. L.H. Berger of Sioux City, Ia. and Mrs. Abraham Berger of Rembrandt, Iowa. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of numerous friends in the loss of this kind lady. Mrs. Hanson was a member of the F.N.E.L. Church in this city. She had made her home in the house where she passed away the past 18 or 19 years. Mr. Hanson died May 25, 1890.

Among those from away who came to the funeral were Herman Hanson of Fargo, Mr. and Mrs. L.H. Berger and son, Lester,of Sioux City, Mrs. Abraham Berger and son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ole Mosbo of Rembrandt, Ia., the deceased's sister-in-law, Mrs. S.K. Swenson and daughter, Florence, of New Hampton and the deceased's nephew, Helmer Berger and wife of Storm Lake.
