Roy Willard Sorenson
Roy Willard Sorenson, 85, of Decorah, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001 at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 22 at 10 a.m.at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church in Decorah with Rev. Kim Smith officiating.
Pallbearers were Lyle Jacobson, Mark Hotvedt, Craig Hotvedt, Lester Sorenson, Dan Hotvedt and Orvin Hotvedt.
Internment was in Phelps Cemetery in Decorah. French and Balik Funeral Home of Decorah handled arrangements.
Roy Willard Sorenson was born Feb. 21, 1916 in Winneshiek County, the son of Lars and Ida (Lien)Sorenson.
He was baptized April 9, 1916 and confirmed April 19, 1931.
Willard Sorenson graduated from Decorah High School in 1934 and farmed with his family.
He married Margaret Matter Feb. 28, 1946 in Decorah.
They farmed north of Decorah for five years on the Matter farm and then moved to Springfield Township and farmed there until moving to Decorah in 1976.
Willard Sorenson loved farming and being on the farm and also enjoyed fishing, playing cards and hunting.
He was a member of Washington Prairie Lutheran Church and served as an usher.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Sorenson of Decorah; special nephew Tom Keefe of Racine, Wis.; one sister, Myrtle Phelps of Cedar Rapids; several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Roy Willard Sorenson was preceded in death by his parents, Lars and Ida Sorenson; three brothers, Leonard, Glen and Edwin Sorenson; one sister, Selma Hotvedt; two nephews, Spencer Hotvedt and Arnold Sorenson and one niece, Carolyn Hotvedt.
