Former Decorah Native Dies In Santa Barbara
Memorial services for Mrs. Emily Barnard, a former Decorah resident now of Santa Barbara, Cal., were held at the All Saints By-the-Sea Espiscopal Church in Santa Barbara. The Rev. George J. Hall and the Rev. George Swain officiated. Interment was in Highland Cemetery in Winfield, Kan. Mrs. Barnard, 81, who has been a resident of Santa Barbara since 1962, died Monday, Jan. 13 in her home after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Barnard was born in Decorah February 21, 1893, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jewell. She graduated from Decorah High School and was married to Elliot Barnard on December 11, 1919 in New Hampton. Before moving to Santa Barbara, the Barnards lived in Kansas City, Mo. from 1937 to 1962 where Mr. Barnard owned and operated a camera store.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Barnard is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Patti Nowell of Palos Verdes Estates, and Mrs. W.B. Bishop of Glen Ellyn, Ill., a sister, Mrs. Nellie Meyrick of Decorah; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
