Selma Hotvedt longtime resident,dies
Mrs. Selma Hotvedt, Decorah, died Sunday, April 27 at Winneshiek Memorial Hospital at the age of 69.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 30 at 2 p.m. at Glenwood Lutheran Church with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. Pastor James K. Jensen officiated the service and organist Ruth Hove accompanied the soloist, Mrs. Leonard Crawford. Burial was at Glenwood Lutheran Church with the following serving as pallbearers: Kenneth Kirkeby, W.R. Schuman, Duane McIntosh, Dale Nimrod, Robert Rosendahl and Ernest Winger. Steine's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hotvedt was born Selma Irene Sorenson on Nov. 15, 1910 in Winneshiek County to Lars and Ida Sorenson. She attended rural schools and graduated from Decorah High School. She was married on May 20 1931 to Helmer Hotvedt in Pleasant Township. He died March 6, 1971. She always lived and farmed in Winneshiek County until moving to Decorah 14 years ago. She worked at the Aase Haugen Homes and also taught rural schools. She was a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church and also a member of the Glenwood A.L.C.W.
She is survived by a son,Orvin Hotvedt of Mabel, Minn. Other survivors include four brothers, Willard Sorenson, Leonard Sorenson, Glen Sorenson, all of Decorah and Edwin Sorenson of Grants Pass, Ore.; one sister, Mrs. Thomas (Myrtle) Philips of Decorah and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Spencer and a daughter, Carolyn.
