Lars Sorenson Funeral Services Held March 9

Funeral services for Lars Sorenson, retired Pleasant Township farmer, were held Tuesday, March 9 at the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church with burial in Phelps Cemetery. Mr. Sorenson died Saturday morning, March 6, 1971 at the Decorah Retirement Center. He was 99 years old.

Pastor Olaf O. Brandt conducted the services. Pallbearers were Orvin Hotvedt, Spencer Hotvedt, Lester Sorenson, Elmer Sorenson, Lyle Jacobson and Rodney Jacobson.

Pastor Brandt was soloist accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Melbourne Faldet.

The foral committee was comprised of Mr. Duane Larson and Mrs. David Larson.

Arrangements were made by Steine Funeral Home.

Mr. Sorenson was born December 20, 1871 in Son Fjord, Norway the son of Soren and Ellen Sorenson. He attended rural schools near his home and received military training at Bergen, Norway.

He moved to Pleasant Township in Winneshiek County in 1892 and farmed there until he moved to Decorah 13 years ago.

He was married to the former Ida Lien in ceremonies performed at the Lien home October 9, 1907.

He is survived by his wife and six children, Leonard Sorenson, Mrs. Helmer (Selma) Hotvedt, Glenn Sorenson, Mrs. Myrtle Jacobson and Willard Sorenson, all of Decorah, and Edwin Sorenson of Rouge River, Oregon.

Other survivors are 13 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, one brother, Andrew Sorenson, Decorah, and one sister, Mrs. Martin Larson, also of Decorah.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two sisters.

Mr. Sorenson was a member of Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church.
