Decorah woman, Ida Sorenson, dies Sept. 19

Funeral services for a long time Decorah area resident, Mrs. Ida J. Sorenson, 90, were held Friday, Sept. 22, 1978 at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church where she was a member. Pastor James K. Jensen officiated at the 1:30 p.m. service. Virginia Faldet was organist.

Mrs. Sorenson died Sept. 19 at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah.

Arrangements were made by Steine Funeral Home. Burial was in Phelps Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Lester Sorenson, Elmer Sorenson, Orvin Hotvedt, Spencer Hotvedt, Duane Jacobson and Lyle Jacobson.

Ida Josephine Lien was born October 4, 1888 in Brown County, Neb. to Ole and Julia Lien. She moved to Decorah in 1897 and attended rural schools in Pleasant Township. On October 9, 1907 she was married with Lars Sorenson at her home. They farmed in Pleasant Township, moving to Decorah in 1958. He preceded her in death March 6, 1971.

Survivors include six children: Selma Hotvedt, Willard Sorenson, Mrs. Tom (Myrtle) Philips, Leonard Sorenson and Glen Sorenson, all of Decorah and Edwin Sorenson of Grants Pass, Ore.; 13 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; two brothers, Melvin Lien and Otto Lien of Decorah and a sister, Rena Steine of Marshalltown.
