Arletta Holien, 79, Ossian, Iowa died Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Ossian Senior Hospice, Ossian, Iowa.
Arletta Ann, the daughter of Harlen and Martha (Sander) Heins, was born November 24, 1933 on the family farm in Grand Meadow Township, Postville, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. Arletta graduated from Postville High School in 1951. Prior to her marriage she worked in a grocery store in Postville.
Arletta was united in marriage with Willard Holien on June 24, 1953 at the Lutheran Parsonage in McGregor, Iowa. To this union 7 children were born.
Arletta was a stay at home mom for several years before going back to work at Iowa Turkey Products in Postville. In 1976 she became a cook for the South Winneshiek Schools in Ossian and Calmar, retiring in 1996.
Arletta was a member of the Ossian Lutheran Church, the Ossian WELCA, and she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was a member at the Silver Springs Golf and Country Club, a 4-H Leader, and community volunteer. Arletta enjoyed baking, traveling, golfing, reading, crossword puzzles, gardening, and watching the Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers.
Arletta is survived by her husband of 59 years, Willard, of Ossian; her 7 children, David (Vicky) Holien of Parker, Colorado; Denis (Margie) Holien of Ossian; Kathy (Dick) Munoz of Des Moines; Kris (David) Berton of Morrison, Colorado; Dan (Sheryl) Holien of Ossian; Darryl (Pam) Holien of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; and Daren (Kristi Sue) Holien of Calmar; 13 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; her brother, Fred (Rose) Heins of Cedar Falls; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Heins of Postville.
Arletta was preceded in death by her parents, Harlen and Martha; and her brother, Hilery Heins.
Visitation will be Friday, May 3, 2013 from 3-7 p.m. at Ossian Lutheran Church, Ossian, Iowa and one hour before services at the church on Saturday.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, at Ossian Lutheran Church, Ossian, Iowa with Lay Pastor Roy Christophersen as the officiant.
Burial will follow at the Hillside Cemetery, Ossian, Iowa.
Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Ossian, Iowa is helping the family with the arrangements.
