Death of Moses Hostetler.
Word reached Decorah Friday of the death of an old resident of this county, Moses Hostetler, at his home at Santa Monica. Cal. We are without particulars of Mr. Hostetler's iIllness, but presume it was advanced age. He was long a resident of this county, living on a fine farm in Frankvllle township, where he took up his residence in 1851. He was born in Ohio in 1825, where he resided with his parents until 21 years of age. Leaving the old home in Ohio he came west, first settling in Wisconsin, where he remained only a short time, leaving In 1849 and coming to Allamakee county, where he remainŽd only two years, on a government claim. Coming to Winnesheik{so} county he purchased an extensive farm, operating for many years 740 acres of the driest farming lands in the county, For a number of years he was president of the Farmers' Mutual Insurance Company. He was married In Miss Mary Brant in Wisconsin in the year 1847, to whom one son was born, William, who resides at Santa Monica, where he is a prominent contracter. Mr. Hostetler removed from this county to California in the year 1891, we think, where his home has since been. He accumulated a competency of this world's goods by economy and industry and wise business methods, and his reputation for honesty, fairness and uprightness, for kindness of heart, neighborly interest and helpfulness will ever remain an enduring monument to his memory in the hearts of many friends. He was, in short a good man in all that the little words imply, and none regret his demise more than the writer of these lines, to whom be was ever a consistent friend.
