John A. Musser died at his home, Tuesday, March 3d, after a lingering illness. Last week we mentioned that he was convalescent, but last Wednesday he was taken violently worse, and gradually declined until relieved by death. J. A. Musser was born in Elkhart Co., Ind., Jan. 15, 1850. He came to Iowa with his parents in the fall of 1871 and settled at Elgin, Fayette Co. In August, 1875, he was united in marriage with Martha J. Fox. In the fall of 1877 they moved to Castalia where they have since resided. The deceased is survived by his wife and son, four brothers and three sisters. In the death of Mr. Musser the town and community sustains an almost irreparable loss. He was one of the most useful men in the community, kind and obliging in disposition, and in fact the highest type of citizen. For twenty years he was township clerk and ever since the incorporation of our town he has been town clerk. He was a member of Brotherly Love Lodge 204, A. F. &A. M., of Postville; also a member of the A. O. U. W. M. W, A. and Royal Neighbors of this place. The funeral rites will be conducted by the A.F.&A. M. lodge Thursday, March 5th. Rev Boss of the U. B. church here will preach the funeral sermon. The family desire to express their sincere thanks to all who so kindly assisted In caring for the deceased, and especially to the members of the A.O.U.W. lodge.
