Postville Review, Fri., 12 May 1911.
There passed away at his home in Decorah on Saturday last one of the best known and most genial of men in this section of Iowa, in the person of Silas B. Ervin, aged a little more than 89 years. He was for a half century and more leader of Ervin's orchestra, recognized as the best musical organization of its kind in this section, and many there are among the older generations who have danced away the gliding hours of night to the merry music of "Old Sile's" fiddle. These and many more will sorrow to know that he is no more.
