Heidi Sanchez

Heidi Erica Sanders was born Oct. 30, 1970, in Decorah. She was the youngest of Gary and Hilma Sanders’ three daughters. She attended Decorah schools until the family moved to Albuquerque, N.M. in 1984. Heidi completed her high school education there, graduating from Del Norte High School in 1989, when she was selected to write and sing the class song. She attended the University of New Mexico for two years before meeting the love of her life and marrying Fred Sanchez Sept. 7, 1991. Fourteen months later they started their family, with Federico Alejandro Militon Sanchez, III, arriving Nov. 28, 1992. Soon after Alex was born, Heidi and Fred relocated to Tulsa and have lived here ever since. Nicolas Immanuel Augustus Sanchez was born July 17, 1996, and Olivia Katarina Hope Sanchez was born March 18, 1998.

Heidi’s love of ministry started when she and Fred served in the youth ministry at Asbury United Methodist Church. Shortly thereafter, she took a part time position in Children’s Ministry, then went full time as the elementary program director. Heidi decided to take her passion and calling a step further and went back to finish her degree, graduating in 2004, with a degree in church leadership and administration from Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Heidi served as Bethany Free Will Baptist’ Children’s pastor until she passed early March 31, 2012.

Heidi is survived by her husband, Fred; children Alex, Nicolas and Olivia, all at home; her parents, Gary and Hilma Sanders, of Broken Arrow; sisters Tracy (Pat) McKenna of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Jenny (Steve) Beatie of Broken Arrow. She also has many adoring nieces and nephews: Bret, Cole and Trey Beatie of Broken Arrow, Okla.; Kyle, Cody, and Clare McKenna of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Ramon and Estaban Sosa, of Albuquerque, N.M.; Shawn Jr. and Aiden Lemarie of Naples, Fla.
