Bessie Huseby

Bessie H. (Rindahl) Huseby, 95, of Willmar, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at Bethesda Pleasantview in Willmar. Her funeral was at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 5. at East Norway Lake Lutheran Church, rural New London, Burial was in the church cemetery. Visitation was 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar, www.hafh.org , and continued one hour prior to the service at the church.

Bessie was born June 23, 1917, in Pleasant Township, Winneshiek County, the daughter of Henry and Tilda Johanna (Gjetly) Spilde. She grew up on the farm and attended country school through the eighth grade. After a couple years, her family moved into Decorah and Bessie continued her schooling at Decorah High School, graduating in 1937. She then moved to Cedar Rapids where she attended Cedar Rapids Business College.

She was united in marriage to James Rindahl at Saron Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids May 4, 1942. Following their marriage they moved to Brooten, where Jim’s family farmed and they began farming and raising their family. Following Jim’s death Dec. 13, 1962, Bessie stayed on the farm and rented the land, as she worked different jobs in Willmar and eventually worked at Lake Country Press for a number of years.

Bessie was united in marriage to Julius Huseby at East Norway Lake Lutheran Church July 26, 1972. They lived on Julius’ farm near Pennock until 1991; and, after Julius’ death, Bessie moved into Willmar to her home on Trott Ave.

Her family will remember her strength and forever positive attitude no matter what life threw at her. Bessie’s faith and love of her family was evident in all that she did. She enjoyed canning, gardening, sewing, quilting and baking the best homemade apple pie. The family would like to say a “Great Big Thank You” to all the employees at Bethesda Homes who helped care for her through her last years.

Surviving are her children: Rondi (and K.) Suppiah of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Mary Jane (and Paul) Ulferts of Sunburg; James (and Shirley) Rindahl of New London; Judy (and David) Bondurant of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Linda Rindahl of Pennock and Loren (and Dawn) Rindahl of Sunburg; 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her stepchildren: Ann (and Richard) Black of Sunburg; Jane Norman and Ed (and Becky) Huseby both of Pennock; Konrad (and Cindy) Huseby of Blaine; 10 step-grandchildren, 12 step-great grandchildren and one great-great-stepgrandchild. Also surviving are her brothers, Orval (and Bernadean) Spilde of Marion; Gavin (and Esther) Spilde; and sister-in-law, Grace Spilde of Decorah.

Besides her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Harold, Leonard, Lester and Myron; and two sisters, Gladys Borsheim, Helen McConaughay; and one step son-in-law, Jack Norman.
