Geneva Nelson, age 79, of Decorah, IA, died on Monday, October 8, 2012, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, IA.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 11, 2012, at the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, 1316 Canoe Ridge Road, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Stacey Nalean – Carlson presiding. Burial will be in the Canoe Ridge Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2:00-6:00 p.m., on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, and also after 10:00 a.m., at the church on Thursday morning.

Geneva Gladys (Klepper) Nelson was born on January 18, 1933, the daughter of Elmer and Inez (Goeke) Klepper on the family farm in Allamakee County, near Waukon, IA. Geneva attended rural Allamakee schools and Waukon High School. She was united in marriage to Richard Nelson on February 10, 1952, at the United Church of Christ in Ludlow, Iowa. Together they farmed near Luana, moving to Glenwood Township in 1953 and to the Canoe Ridge farm in 1961. They moved into Freeport in 2010. Over the years, Geneva and Richard enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards and square dancing. Geneva liked to tend to her garden, can her produce, sew, quilt and make lefsa and rosettes. Geneva was an active member of the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church.

Geneva is survived by her husband: Richard Nelson, Decorah, IA. Four children: Susan (Don) Nelson, Decorah, IA; Ray Nelson, Waukon, IA; Roger (Janine) Nelson, Decorah, IA; and Janeen (Bill) Kocian, Decorah, IA. Grandchildren: Richard (friend, Anna) Olson, Matthew (Karla) Olson, Jeanette (Mitch) Laures, Deanna (Justin) Smock, Teri Olson, Darrick Olson, Shirlee (Chris) Taylor, Kevin (Lisa) Nelson, Justin Nelson, Kyle Nelson, Logan Nelson, Sarah (Ross) Blanchard, Landa Ruen, Breanna Ruen, Laura (friend, Corey) Ruen, Bill (Carissa) Kocian, Jr., David Kocian, Tony Kocian and Nicole Kocian. Great Grandchildren: Tristan, Mia, Miles, Cade, Lillian, Mara, Sydney, Carson, Ely, Owen, Morgan, Noah, Cyrek, Tynan, Peyton, Tony, Jr., and Michael. Two sisters: Judy Reckward, Decorah, IA, and Bernita Holthaus, Dakota City, IA. Sisters and brothers-in-law: Martha (Vernon) Swenson, Clifton, TX; Walter Nelson, West Union, IA; Bill (Dee) Johnson, South Dakota, and several nieces and nephews.

Geneva was preceded in death by her parents: Elmer and Inez (Goeke) Klepper. Two brothers-in-law: Jim Reckward and Leo Holthaus.
