Gilma Oyloe, age 92, of Decorah, IA, passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2012, at Wellington Place in Decorah, IA.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at the Springfield Lutheran Church, 1969 Middle Calmar Road, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Phillip Olson presiding. Burial will be in the Springfield Cemetery.

Friends may call from 9:00-11:00 a.m., on Tuesday morning at the church.

Gilma Odessa (Solem) Oyloe was born on February 15, 1920, the daughter of Peter and Marie (Horvey) Solem, near Hesper, IA, in rural Winneshiek County. She grew up on a small farm near Big Canoe Lutheran Church, where she was baptized and confirmed. She attended grade school at a country school west of Sattre and graduated from Decorah High School in 1938. While in her teens, Gilma sang with a group of girls from Big Canoe Church that performed throughout the area. Gilma was united in marriage to Carl Oyloe on September 27, 1939, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They recently observed their seventy-third wedding anniversary. Side by side, they farmed and raised a family in Springfield Township. Gilma’s life revolved around her family, faith and friends. She was a member of the Springfield Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School for over thirty years. While she was able, she was active in circle, quilting for Missions and many other Church activities. Gilma was a warm hearted homemaker. She welcomed everyone to her table.

Gilma is survived by her husband: Carl Oyloe, Decorah, IA. Four children: Gary (Jo Siddens) Oyloe, Portland, OR; Ron (Mary) Oyloe, Decorah, IA; Karen (Ed) Kramer, Grayslake, IL; and Marc (Lana) Oyloe, Decorah, IA. Six grandchildren: Yori Oyloe, Peter Oyloe, Emily Oyloe, Sam Oyloe, Derek (Tara) Oyloe, and Jason (Crystal) Oyloe. Four great grandchildren: Ethan & Evan Oyloe, and Odessa & Luke Oyloe. One sister-in-law: Norma Oyloe, Owatonna, MN, and a dear friend from childhood: Beatrice Tilleros, Decorah, IA, along with many nieces and nephews, including Dick & Myrna Ingram and John & Gwen Steffler. Special friends include the children of Robert and Emma Jevne.

Gilma was preceded in death by her parents: Peter and Marie (Horvey) Solem. One grandson: Matthew Ronald Oyloe. One sister: Marlys (Morris) Hegseth. Three brothers: Byron (Esther) Solem, George (Clara Jean) Solem, and Roger (Lorene) Solem. Two nieces: Phyllis Hegseth and Judy Solem; and one nephew: Richard Solem. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Melvin Oyloe, Orville (Stella) Oyloe and Ida (Fordyce) Ingram.
