Joey Headington, age 28, of Decorah, IA, went to his heavenly home on Sunday, July 29, 2012.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 3, 2012, at the First Lutheran Church, 604 West Broadway, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Chad Huebner and Rev. Richard Simon Hanson presiding. Burial will be in the Russell Cemetery, Decorah, IA.
Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue, Decorah, IA.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to the Russell Cemetery, P.O. Box 353, Decorah, IA 52101. The family also suggests casual attire for both the visitation and service.
Joseph John “Joey” Headington was born on September 16, 1983, the son of John and Barb (Hanson) Headington in Decorah, IA. Joey was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Decorah. He graduated from Decorah High School in 2003. He attended Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids and NICC in Calmar. Joey worked for Barron Motor Supply in Decorah. He enjoyed reading Mark Twain, operating his RC Cars, drawing, George Carolan, all kinds of music and being at his campsite in the north woods at home. He liked to play drums with the Nuts Band, which included his friends, Shane Einck, Mike Hangartner, Jeff Beatty, Tyler Bruening, Tony Olson and Nick Stejskal. Above all he enjoyed the time spent with his friends and especially with his Godchild Dawson and his two brothers, Phil and Curt and their families. Joey was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Decorah.
Joey’s survivors include his parents: John and Barb Headington, Decorah, IA. Two brothers: Phil & Angie Headington and their children: Cole, Dawson & Dahlyn, Decorah, IA. Curt & Ashley Headington, and their daughter, Addyson and a future niece due in November, Decorah, IA. Grandparents: Shirley Dynes, Bonita Springs, FL; John “Jack” and Edel Headington, Decorah, IA. Aunts and uncles: Ellen & Joe Levernier, Hopkins, MN; Jerry & Mary Nelson, Tiffin, IA; Kara Murray, Decorah, IA; Dr. Rod & Debby Dynes, Windom, MN; Rich & Ruth Draeger, Nipomo, CA; Michael Watson, Half Moon Bay, CA, along with many great aunts and uncles and cousins. Joey is also survived by his godparents: Joe and Bev Sheridan and Judy and the late Duane McIntosh.
Joey was preceded in death by his grandparents: Howard and Lavanda Hanson and Dr. Terry Dynes. Great Grandparents: Paul & Lela Headington, Hans & Esther Solum, George & Teresa Schave, John & Winnefred Hanson, Leslie & Ruth Dynes, and George & Tetoo Walker. One aunt: Marcia Dynes Watson. Joey’s special dad in heaven, Mark A. Dynes.
