Joyce Seagren
Joyce Seagren, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away May 28, 2011. Visitation was Tuesday, May 31, from 4 until 8 p.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church, 6450 Allisonville Rd. The funeral service was Wednesday, June 1, at 10 a.m. at Epworth.
Joyce was born Aug. 3, 1924, to the late Helmer and Celia Simonson Hovden, in Ridgeway, where she was an all-state athlete in high school. She then attended Hamlin College and completed nursing school at Asbury-Methodist School of Nursing.
Joyce worked as a registered nurse for the Red Cross, traveling throughout the U. S. to care for polio patients. She also worked as a surgical nurse for many years. After her nursing career she worked as a realtor for Century 21. She was a long time member of Epworth United Methodist Church and Old Oakland Golf Club.
She married Wayne L. Seagren July 7, 1951. They lived in California for 15 years prior to moving to Indianapolis in 1965.
Joyce enjoyed bowling, tennis, golf, bridge and attending Colts football games.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 60 years, Wayne, of Indianapolis, Ind.; son, and daughter-in-law, Lance Denise (Steele) Seagren of Lafayette, Ind.; and daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Brad Eshelman, of Indianapolis, Ind.; grandchildren, Amy (Zack) Adams, Andrew and Kari Eshelman, Allison (Ian) Webb, Benjamin Seagren, Daniel and Erin Seagren and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Seagren; sister, Joann Gardner, of Cresco.
Preceding Joyce in death was a son, David Seagren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Epworth United Methodist Church and/or Alzheimer’s Association.
