Stephen Sexton

Funeral services for Stephen Sexton who died of a heart attack at the Decorah hospital, July 5, 1945, were held at St. Bridget’s church at Bluffton, July 9. The Rev. Geo. Mahoney officiated and burial was in the St. Bridget’s cemetery. Pallbearers were Francis Sexton, Edward Carolan, Herbert Henry, James Kelly, Joe Knox and Paul Jones.

Born in Bluffton

Deceased was born in Bluffton township, Winneshiek county, Ia., Sept. 2, 1895. His parents were Thomas and Susan Sexton. His father preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife and sons, Charles Robert in France and who could not be here for the funeral, Raymond Joseph, stationed with the army at Tucson, Ariz., and who arrived home by airplane the morning of the funeral; Donald Paul and Marvin Peter. He has one sister Mary who is Mrs. R. Chandler of Lawler, Ia., and two brothers, Joseph of Burr Oak and T. J. Sexton, Decatur, Ill.

Mr. Sexton was a member of the Catholic church and his life work was farming.

Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Grace Carolan, Des Moines; Mrs. T. A O’Brien, Rock Island, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Sexton, daughter Janice, Decatur, Ill.; Miss Rose Carolan, Dubuque; Mrs. Clem Ulenhake, Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Rose Chandler sons Tom and Jack, Mrs. Sexton, Harry Chandler and his mother Mrs. Chandler, Mrs. Eva Cooney, Mrs. Vincent Murphy, Zeta Larson, Mrs. Helena Murray, all of Lawler and Mrs. Peck of Fredericksburg.

Card of Thanks

The kindness and sympathy of our neighbors, friends and relatives in our recent sorrow will always remain with us a precious memory. Our sincere thanks and gratitude for all those comforting acts.
