Leon P. Sandvik

Leon Peter Sandvik died suddenly at his home at 3632 Chicago Avenue, Minneapolis, Thursday, March 20, 1941. He had been ailing for a month but his condition was not serious. Death was due to a heart attack and bronchial pneumonia.

Funeral services were held at Lakewood chapel in Minneapolis at 1:30 Monday afternoon and burial was in the Lakewood cemetery. The Rev. Luther Roseland, assistant pastor of one of the Minneapolis Norwegian Lutheran churches, officiated.

Pallbearers were Julian Monson, Don Yerks, Al Stacy, Gordon McClurg, Tony Sauter and Gene D. Dunkles.

Mr. Sandvik was a brother of Mrs. Ralph Teetshorn, Mrs. Earl Teetshorn, Mrs. Adolph Burri, Gerald Sandvik, all of near Cresco and Ingvold Sandvik of Harmony.

He was born in 1903 on a farm in the Kendallville vicinity in Winneshiek county, the son of Julian and Gertrude Sandvik. His mother died a number of years ago.

He grew up attending the Winneshiek county schools and when a young man went to Minneapolis. He was married there to Miss Josephine Lund on Sept. 24, 1924. Two children were born to the, June who is 12 years old and Allen who is 15.

Besides his wife and children he is survived by the above named three sisters and two brothers; another brother, Elmer, and his father, Julian Sandvik who are in Norway, his stepmother and two half sisters, also in Norway.

When a boy, he was confirmed by the Rev. Gerhart Rasmussen on Nov. 11, 1917, at the Norwegian Lutheran church at Harmony.

He was employed as a mechanic by the Standard Oil Co., at their station at 36th Street and Lyndale in Minneapolis.

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Teetshorn, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Teetshorn, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Burri, Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Sandvik, all of the Cresco vicinity and Mr. and Mrs. Ingvold Sandvik of Harmony attended the funeral.
