Sgt. Harold Rue Killed

Mr. and Mrs. Lew Rue received a telegram from the war department Friday afternoon that their son, S. Sgt. Harold Rue was killed in action in Mindanao on May 1st. They also received a letter this week from his buddy, James Lewis of Oklahoma which also mentioned their son’s death.

S. Sgt. Harold Rue was born at Ridgeway on Feb. 22, 1916, and is a graduate of Ridgeway high school. He farmed the home place in Lincoln township before being inducted into the U. S. army. He entered service Jan. 27, 1942 and after being stationed at Camp Wolters, Texas, for four months was sent overseas, serving for 33 months in Hawaii, New Guinea, Australia, Netherlands East Indies and the Philippines. He took part in several of the invasions of the island of the South Pacific and landed in Leyte October 20, the first day of the invasion of the Philippines. He served with the 24th division of the 6th army. He was never home on furlough, but expected to come in July.

S. Sgt. Rue is survived by his parents, his grandfather, Holver Rue, three brothers, Garvin, Irvin and Alton of Ridgeway and two sisters Arelene, Mrs. Dick Beaumont, and Pearl Rue, both of San Diego, Cailf.{sp}
