Miss Christine Owen

Funeral services for Miss Christine Owen, who passed away in Chicago Wednesday, were held at the Fjelstul funeral home at 1 o’clock and at the Madison Lutheran church at 2:00 Saturday afternoon. Rev. Quill officiated and interment was in the adjoining cemetery. Miss Christine Owen, daughter of Nels and Christi Owen, after an illness of only one day, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the Lutheran hospital at Chicago where she had been employed as a social welfare worker.

Christine was born in this community on Sept. 22, 1896, was baptized in the Madison church Oct. 25, of the same year and was confirmed in the same church June 11, 1911 by Rev. Thos. Nilsen. Miss Christine grew to young womanhood here in Ridgeway. After attending Ridgeway and Decorah high schools, she graduated from State Teachers college at Cedar Falls. Later she received her Masters Degree from the University of Iowa at Iowa City. Most of her life was spent teaching in high schools and Luther college and Northern Teachers College at Marquette, Mich.

She devoted herself to serving others, and especially the unfortunate and the under-privileged. She was engaged as a case worker in the Lutheran home finding society of Chicago for the past two years. Her parents preceded her in death. Surviving her are a sister Josephine in Chicago, and 3 brothers, Henry of Cresco, Carl of Chester and Ernest of Omaha, Neb., two nieces and 3 nephews.
