Henrietta Mahaffy daughter of James and Eliza Boise Todd, was born in Winneshiek county, Iowa, on March 29, 1860, and passed quietly away Friday morning March 24, 1944, attaining the age of 83 years, 11 months and 25 days. There were six daughters and five sons in the Todd family.

After finishing school Henrietta taught school near home. In 1884 she was married to David H. Mahaffy and moved just across the state line into Fillmore county, Minnesota. To this union two sons were born, Henry J. and Raymond T. Her husband passed away in 1893. Mrs. Mahaffy with her two sons moved to Minnehaha county from Fillmore county, Minnesota, in March 1914 and lived in the Colton community with her two sons until her death. Mrs. Mahaffy was a member of the State Line Methodist church.

Her two sons Henry J. and Raymond T. of Colton and one sister Mrs. Ida M. Richards of Richmond Beach, Washington, survive her. Also a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Mahaffy had been an invalid since 1940, confined to her home. She bore her affliction very patiently, always cheery and smiling. She never complained but remained hopeful at all times. Every thing was always alright. This faith in God and others helped make her life complete.

She was laid to rest beside her husband in the family lot in Elliota cemetery, near Canton, Minnesota.
