John F. Bohach, Sr.

John F. Bohach, 84, lifelong resident of Winneshiek county, died at the New Hampton hospital, on Monday afternoon, Dec. 31, 1945, after a week’s illness. Funeral services were held at St. Wenceslaus church at Spillville Thursday at 10 a.m., Jan. 3, 1946. The Rev. Badura officiated and burial was in the adjoining cemetery.

Mr. Bohach was born in Marsice, Czechoslovakia, May 25, 1861, the son of Joe and Rose Drtina Bohach. He came to this country at the age of six years with his parents and settled in Winneshiek county.

In January, 1886, he was united in marriage with Mary Shindelar and moved near Spillville on a farm. Later he moved to another farm near Ft. Atkinson where he lived the remainder of his life, 48 years, retiring seven years ago.

Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Bohach, three sons, and two daughters. They are Joseph and William of Ft. Atkinson; John of Cresco; Mary at home, and Helen, who is Mrs. Charles Balik of Cresco. There are nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Frank Skoda, Jackson Junction. His parents, his wife and two grandchildren preceded him in death, Mrs. Bohach dying March 13, 1937.

Mr. Bohach was a devout Catholic and was administered the last rites of the church before his death. He will be greatly missed by his children, other relatives and friends in the community where he lived so long and labored hard from an early age to almost the end of his life. All members of his family were present at the funeral.

Pallbearers were deceased’s two grandsons, Rudolph and Billy Bohach, Frank Zbornik, John Taylor, Mike Hayek and Mike Zbornik.
