Mrs. Mike Shindelar

Funeral services for Mrs. Mike Shindelar, who passed away at her home near Spillville on Saturday, June 17, 1939, were held at St. Wenceslaus Catholic church at Spillville Monday morning. Rev. V. J. Hlubek read the mass of requiem and Rev. J. P. Broz delivered the sermon and conducted the burial services. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Rosalie Silhacek was born in Spillville January 18, 1865 and was united in marriage with Mike Shindelar, on April 24, 1883. Ten children were born to this union: John, who died in 1938; Mary (Mrs. Frank Stika), and Frank Shindelar of Protivin; Celia (Mrs. Philip Hayak), Rose (Mrs. Frank Pecka), and Mike Shindelar, all of near Spillville; Joseph of Lawler; Barbara (Mrs. Joseph Vitoushek) of Spillville and Charles at home. Another son, Vaclav, died in 1895. Besides her widower and surviving children she leaves twenty-three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, (Anna) Mrs. Joe Novak of Pisek, N. D. Her brother, John Silhacek, and sister, Mrs. John Novak, preceded her in death. In the many years that the deceased spent in this community she gained the love and friendship of all who came in contact with her. She was one of those fine motherly women who instinctively won the esteem and friendship of everyone. The deceased had been in failing health for some time and the immediate cause of her death was from complications following a ruptured appendix. Those who bore the remains to the final resting place were six grandsons, Louis, John and Vaclav Shindelar, Ed and Adolf Hayek and Gust Shindelar. Those from a distance who came to attend the funeral were Mike H. Shindelar and family, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Shindelar and Mrs. Mary Shindelar, all of Cedar Rapids; Joe Novak, Mr. and Mrs. John Beneda and son Thomas Novak, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Chyle, all of Pisek, N. D.
