Mrs. W. James Paley
Mrs. W. James Paley, a long time resident of this community passed away suddenly at her home here at 2:30 o’clock Sunday morning. Funeral arrangements were not completed Monday morning, but the services will probably be held Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Nedtwig, officiating, Interment will be in the Ridgeway cemetery.
Mrs. Paley, a daughter of Thos. and Jessie Blackburn, was born in Springdale Twp., Dane county, Wisconsin, Oct. 10, 1857. At the age of six years she came with her parents to Lincoln township, where she grew to young womanhood. Nov. 2, 1879, she was united in marriage to W. James Paley at the home of her parents and they made their home on a farm 2 miles north of Ridgeway. They moved to Ridgeway in 1887 where they have resided since.
Mrs. Paley has held several positions in community and church activities. She was treasurer of the M. E. Aid Society for several years and at the time of her death, she was corresponding secretary of the Woman’s Foreign Missionary Society. At one time she was secretary of the Ridgeway cemetery association. When the Farmers State bank was organized in 1932, after the closing of the First State bank, she was one of the largest shareholders in the new bank.
She is survived by her husband, three sons, Fred at home, Alec W. Paley of Quesnel, British Columbia, Can., and Walt Paley of Ames, Ia. Four daughters, Mrs. V. C. Sheetz (Elsie) of Decorah; Mrs. G. H. Rollin (Florence) of Fredericksburg; Mrs. C. C. Carrothers, (Ethel) of Columbus, Ohio, and Mrs. W. J. Nesset (Mae) of Mahnomen, Minn., one brother, Robert Blackburn of Ridgeway and two sisters, Mrs. E. J. McQuatters of Northwood and Mrs. L. C. Schorr of Ridgeway. One sister Mrs. E. H. Jones (Weyauwega, Wis.) and two brothers, Jas. A. Blackburn, Royal, Neb., and John, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Paley was highly esteemed by a large circle of friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Much sympathy is extended to the husband and children in their loss.
