Wm. A. Gesell
Wm. A. Gesell who a number of years ago resided on a farm near Ridgeway, died suddenly at his home in Chinook, Mont., at 2:00 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30, 1938. Mr. Gesell had been ill a few days during the week preceding his death, but had apparently recovered and was in his usual health when he retired the evening before his death. He was 68 years old and had lived at Chinook for 28 years. Death was due to a heart attack.
Largely attended funeral services were held in the Zion Lutheran church at Chinook Monday afternoon, October 3, and burial was in the cemetery there. The Rev. M. Cohns officiated. In respect of deceased the Chinook business houses were closed during the funeral hour.
William Adolph Gesell was born Oct. 5, 1869 at Ridgeway, Iowa. He attended school at Ridgeway and graduated from Valder Business College at Decorah, Ia., in 1893. He was in the mercantile business at Elma until 1901 when he moved with his family to North Dakota where he lived at Lakota, Wolford and Rolette. In 1910 the family moved to Chinook, Mont.
He was married to Miss Anna Mallon at Mallard, Ia., Dec. 9, 1896 and to this union seven children were born. Two children preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife and five children: J. L. Gesell of Bozeman, Mont.; Mrs. Lloyd Kenyon of Chinook, Mont.; Mrs. Ray Sandvold of Cody, Wyo.; Florence Gesell and E. M. Gesell of Chinook.
For the past four years Mr. Gesell was a justice of the peace in Chinook. He also operated a cream station there. He was an elder of the Zion Lutheran church.
Besides his wife and children he is survived by one brother and one sister: J. F. Gesell of Elma, Ia., and Mrs. C. P. Reis of Cresco.
All of the children attended the funeral with their mother. Besides the immediate family there was present from a distance Mrs. H. E. Ramsey of Arlington, Ia., a sister of Mrs. Gesell.
