Services held for Roger McConnell

Funeral services for William “Roger” McConnell were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 3 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Bluffton with Rev. Henry W. Charipar officiating. The brothers and sister placed the pall. Interment was in St. Bridget’s Church Cemetery in Bluffton. Honorary pallbearers were: Mark McConnell, Richard McConnell and Brian McConnell, Dennis, Loren, Mark and David McCabe. Pallbearers were: Darrell McCabe, Steve McConnell, Mike and Tim McConnell, and Bruce and Brad McConnell. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Roger, 73, died Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco

William Roger McConnell was born May 17, 1930 in Winneshiek County, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth (McCormick) McConnell. He was baptized on May 18, and became a member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Bluffton. He attended the rural Canoe #9 River Bottom School. Following his education he stayed on the farm to help his parents. On February 25, 1953, he entered the United States Army and spent one year, four months and 27 days in Korea. He was discharged on February 4, 1955 and returned to the farm.

Roger was a life time member of St. Bridget’s Parish until he moved into Cresco and joined the Notre Dame Parish. He was a member of the V.F.W. Cresco Post 4561. He loved the outdoors and likes to tinker with tractors. Mechanically he could do it all.

He is survived by two brothers: Jim and Frank, both of Cresco; and one sister: Mary Jane McCabe of Mabel, MN.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers: Edward and Lucian.
