Services held for Ollie Hovden, 69

Funeral services for Ollie S. Hovden were held September 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway with Rev. Phillip Olson and Associate in Ministry Ginny Olson officiating. Interment was held at Lincoln Cemetery.

Honorary pall bearers were Henry and Irene Aschin, Rosemary and Joe Vopava, Rosemary and Lyle Rosendahl, Dale and Beverly Nielsen, Carol Rosendahl, Rose Ward, Allen and Beverly Patterson, John and Anna Lee Finley, Betty Halverson and Don Bruess, and Agnes Soukup. Pall bearers were David Dvorak, Jeff Holstad, Gordon Fulsaas, Alan Hovden, Roy Fulsaas and Wayne Hovden. French and Balik Funeral Home in Decorah handled the arrangements.

Ollie, 69, died September 15, 1998.

Ollie Seymour Hovden was born December 2, 1928 in Lincoln Township, Winneshiek county, the son of Olvin and Sena (Holstad) Hovden. Ollie and his parents lived on several farms in Lincoln Township before settling on the farm in Madison Township.

Ollie was baptized into the Christian faith on January 22, 1929 at Madison Lutheran Church and confirmed that faith on May 23, 1943, also at Madison. Ollie was a life-long member of Madison and then later, Peace Lutheran Church. An active member, he served on various committees and on the congregational council. He was also a member of the Lamplighters Couple’s Club.

Ollie was educated in the rural schools and completed his junior year at Ridgeway High School. Ollie farmed all his life. He took his Herefords to show and sales over a wide area. He was a member of the National Hereford Association and the Farm Bureau.

On August 1, 1971, Ollie was united in marriage with Margaret Ann Albertson at Peace Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife Margaret Ann; and his sons, Gaylen and Lorne.

Ollie was preceded in death by his parents.
