Services held for Dorothy Hovey

Funeral services for Dorothy Hovey were held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 14 at the Notre Dame Parish-Assumption Worship Center in Cresco with Rev. Donald J. Hawes officiating. Interment was in St. Agnes Cemetery in Plymouth Rock. Honoray{sic} pallbearers were: Dauwn Kucera, Erin Ludwig, Michelle Hovey, Mindy Johnson, Kelli Hovey, and Holly Johnson. Pallbearers were: Chris, Mike, Matt, Justin, and Adam Hovey, Andrew Johnson, Aaron and Eric Syverson, and David Ellingson. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Dorothy 79, died Monday, August 11, 2003 at the Regional Health Services Hospital in Cresco.

Dorothy Agatha Hovey was born September 28, 1923 in Winneshiek County, near Kendallville, the daughter of Leo H. and Geneva M. (Cummings) McGee. She attended rural schools and graduated from Cresco High School in 1942. She received her teaching certificate and taught until her marriage.

On December 29, 1947 she married Charles V. Hovey at the Assumption Church Rectory in Cresco. They farmed in the Plymouth Rock area until they moved into Cresco on November 1, 1998.

Dorothy helped on the farm, drove school bus, and worked as a nurses aide.

She liked to crochet, embroider, and was very active in her church.

She is survived by her children: Leland of Harmony, MN, Duane of Cresco, Gary of Kendallville, Mary Johnson of Lewisville, CO, Richard of Cresco, and Marsha Syverson of Decorah; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers: Lyola of Raymond, Willis of Raymond, and Leo of Des Moines; and three sisters: Ilene Whalen of Lyle, MN, Geraldine Ott of Denver, and Mildred Ellingson of Rochester, MN.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Charles in 1999; two children: Charles J. in 1990 and an infant son Joseph in 1953; one grandson; and one brother: Ronald.
