Services held for Alice Hovden

Funeral services for Alice Hovden of Decorah were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 28 at Madison Lutheran Church in rural Ridgeway with Rev. Phillip Olson and Rev. Ginny Olson officiating. Interment was in Madison Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Ridgeway. Pallbearers were: Gene Rovang, Randy Rovang, Rodney Rovang, Lance Dahle, Dan Hovden, and Kirby Hovden. Fjelstul Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Alice, 97, died Sunday, August 24, 2003 at Oneota Riverview Care Facility following a long illness.

Alice Melvina Hovden was born August 12, 1906 in Madison Township, Winneshiek County, the daughter of Andrew K. and Marie (Fulsaas) Hovden. She was baptized at the Ridgeway Chapel on September 9, 1906 and confirmed her faith at Madison Lutheran Church on May 22, 1921 where she remained a life-long member. She attended rural school in Mahnomen County, MN where she lived with her family for 11 years, and also in Madison Township.

On November 22, 1923 she married Rudie G. Hovden at the Madison Lincoln Parsonage. They farmed until moving to Decorah in May of 1964.

Alice was active in the Madison Ladies Aid Society of which she was a charter member, and also the Rachel Circle.

Alice lived at Oneota Housing in Decorah from 1992 until May 2001 when she entered Oneota Riverview Care Facility.

She is survived by one son: Alton of Cresco; two daughters: Delores Rovang of Decorah and Audrey Dahle of Ridgeway; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband Rudie on October 22, 1990; one grandson; her parents; four sisters: Beatha Knutson, Clara Bakken, Marcella Johnson, and Lillian Thompson; and one brother: Karl.
