Services held for Kenneth Hageman

Funeral Services for Kenneth John Hageman, 52, of Ossian, IA, were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, 1997, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian. Interment was in St. Francis Cemetery with Schmitz Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

He died suddenly Sunday evening, February 9, 1997, at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital after an apparent heart attack.

Kenneth John Hageman was born July 14, 1944, the son of John A. and Bertha M. (Schissel) Hageman at New Hampton. He was baptized and confirmed in his faith at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church at Festina, IA. He attended elementary school in Festina and graduated from DeSales High School in Ossian in 1962.

Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy where obtained the rank of HM3 (E-4) and served as a first aid attendant. He served at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Yokosuka, Japan, and for 13 months in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on September 29, 1966. He received the Purple Heart; the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; and Fleet Marine Force Combat Operation Insignia.

On February 4, 1967, he was united in marriage to Joanne Kuhn (Meyer) at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville.

He co-owned Fjelstul/Hageman Construction from 1970-1976. In 1976, he became sole owner of Ken Hageman Construction Company. In 1993, he sold his business to S.C.I Co., and continued to be under their employment for three years. He had been employed by Reilly Construction Company, Inc., since June, 1996.

Kenneth was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Chjurch{sic} and its Rosary Society; served as church lector and as a Eucharistic Minister; served on the Church Council; member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 2073; American Legion Post No. 503.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne; one son, Earl Scott Meyer of Portsmouth, VA; two daughters, Cindy Harris of Colorado Springs, CO; and Carla Helmkamp of Cresco; one granddaughter; and two brothers, Dale Hageman of Calmar; and Dennis (Red) Hageman of Ossian.

Preceding him in death were his parents and grandparents.
