Services held for Herbert Gossman
Funeral services for Herbert Gossman were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 26 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Plymouth Rock. The Rev. Donald Hawes and Rev. Michael L. Tauke officiated. His eight sons were pall bearers, and daughters and daughters-in-law placed the pall on the casket. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Herbert, 75, died Wednesday, September 23, 1998 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN.
Herbert Glendon Gossman was born October 19, 1922 in Winneshiek County, the son of John W. and Anna Marie (Knox) Gossman. He was baptized and confirmed in the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Plymouth Rock. He attended the rural school in Winneshiek County.
On October 19, 1950 he was united in marriage to Naomi Flatland at the St. Agnes Church. They farmed a traditional livestock, grain farm in Winneshiek County on the home farm, until they rented the farm in 1977 and in 1987, they moved to their present home. Herb also went to work for Donaldson, Co. in 1967 and worked until 1988.
Herb and his family maintained the St. Agnes Cemetery for many years with Herb being on the cemetery board.
Survivors include his wife, Naomi; eight sons: Greg of Spring Valley, MN, Mike of St. Paul, MN, John of Blair, NE, Tom of Remer, MN, Pat of Cresco, David of St. Paul, MN, and Terry of Lime Springs; four daughters: Julie of Lanesboro, MN, Marie Konen of Cresco, Cheryl McGinley of Harmony, MN, and Laurie Kavitz of Maplewood, MN; 24 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Loretta Kneeskern of Rochester, MN.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild, and four sisters: Helen Gossman, Florence Mathews, Bernadine Stortz and Marjorie Hanlon.

Regarding the obituary of Herbert Gossman, printed in the September 30 issue of The Times Plain Dealer, we inadvertently omitted one of Herbert’s surviving son’s names: Chris Gossman of Cresco. The Times regrets the omission.
