Mrs. Mary Novak, 81, died Thursday afternoon, Feb. 3, after an ex-tended illness of several years with a heart ailment. As Mary Silhachek she was born at Spillville in 1856 and was united in marriage in 1877 to John Novak at the St. Wenceslaus church at Spillville. To this union were born five children: Mrs. Mary Loesch of Spillville, Mrs. Anna Houdek of Protivln, a son Francis passed away last August and two sons died in infancy. Her husband preceded her in death about two years ago. The deceased was a devout member of the Catholic Church and died fortified by the last rites of her faith. She was a member of the St. Ann Society, who in a body escorted the remains to the grave. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Anna Novak of Pisek, N. D., and Mrs. Rose Shindelar of near Fort Atkinson. Her only brother, John Silhachek preceded her in death four weeks ago. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 10:00 o'clock at the St. Wenceslaus church, Rev. V. J. Hlubek officiating. She was laid to rest beside her husband in the adjoining cemetery. The pall bearers were six grandsons: Philip and Lewis Loesch, John and Lewis Novak, Jos and Lewis Houdek
