John L. Hopperstad

Funeral services for John L. Hopperstad, who passed away at his home near here Monday Oct. 13, were held at 1:15 at the home and at 2 o’clock at the Lincoln Lutheran church, Thursday afternoon. The pastor, Rev. Quill, officiated and burial was in the Lincoln cemetery. The pall bearers were: Peter Anderson, Iver Anderson, John Albertson, Ole Brenno, John Brenno and Henry Halvorson.

John L. Hopperstad was born on Aug. 14, 1860 in Sumner twp., and passed away at his home Oct. 13, 1941, at the age of 81 years, 2 months. He suffered from a stroke in January 1939 from which he never fully recovered. He was confined to his bed since Sept. 1940.

Mr. Hopperstad was born and raised in Sumner twp., and has lived here all his life. May 5, 1890, he was united in marriage to Betsie Olson of New Hampton. To this union 11 children were born, all of whom are living. They are: Mrs. Alfred Magnus, Ridgeway, Louis Hopperstad, Thief River Falls, Minn.; Julia, at home, Ole of Butte, Mont.; Iver of Glendale, Calif.; Gilbert and Mrs. Carl Qualley of Cresco; Mrs. Wallie Drummerhausen of Albert Lea; Mrs. Leonard Nelson of Albert Lea; Julian at home and Lawrence of Camp Claiborne, La. He also leaves to mourn 10 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and four sisters: Mrs. Ole Bakken of Ridgeway, Mrs. Anna Sullivan of Albert Lea, Mrs. Jennie Erwin of Waterloo and Mrs. Julia Orvold of St. Paul. He was preceded in death by his wife, Aug. 6, 1919.

Much sympathy is extended to the family and to the many friends and relatives in their hour of sorrow. Among those from a distance attending the funeral were Mrs. Oluf Orvold, Mrs. Julia Orvold, Mrs. B. T. Leighton and Leonard Orvold of St. Paul; Mrs. Mabel Blace, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Wallie Drummerhausen of Albert Lea; Mr. and Mrs. Lester Thomison of Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. O. T. Otteson, Harry Knight, Clara Olson and Gilbert Otteson of New Hampton; Johanna Ellingson, Mrs. Ellen Ellingson, Mrs. Hans Flatland and Mr. and Mrs. John Jerbt of Saude, and Lawrence Hopperstad of Camp Claiborne, La.
