Mrs. Anton Riehle Passes

The announcement of the death of Mrs. Theresa Riehle, brought sadness to her many friends, though it was expected, as the deceased had been ill for more than a year, when called to her eternal home on Tuesday afternoon, July 29, at 1 o’clock.

As Theresa Held, she was born in 1858 near Spillville, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Held. She was united in marriage to Anton Riehle in 1883, at St. Wenceslaus church in Spillville by the Rev. Kramalis. Their home was established on the Riehle homestead two miles south of Spillville, which has since been her home. To this union a daughter and two sons were born, namely: Mrs. C. E. (Rose Emma) Herold, who with her husband and family, came to live with her parents and care for them during their declining years, and Wm. J. Riehle of Spillville and E. J. of Ft. Atkinson. Her husband preceded her in death in September, 1940. Besides her children, she is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Rose Riehle, Cresco and Mrs. Jos. Riehle of New Hampton. Funeral services were held at the St. Clements church, Thursday morning at 9 o’clock. Rev. Father Chihak offered the Requiem Mass and officiated at the graveside rites. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery beside her husband. Mrs. Riehle was a life long member of the Catholic church and died fortified by its rites. She was also a member of the Rosary society of St. Clements church and the members escorted the remains to the grave. Pallbearers were: Wilfred Herold, a grandson, and Paul, Geo., Elmer, Sonrad and Julius Riehle, all nephews of the deecased{sic}.

Relatives attending the funeral from a distance were: Mrs. Cyril Herold, Decorah; Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Dempewolf, Mr. and Mrs. John Burnikel, Wilfred Herold, Fred Riehle, Mr. and Mrs. Will Herold, Mrs. A. P. Herold, Mayme Herold, Mrs. Sophie Meyer and Susan Coughlin, all of Cresco; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Riehle, Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Riehle, New Hampton; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Riehle, Geo. Riehle and sons Paul and Leo of Lawler; Mrs. Bert Schissel, Waucoma, and Mrs. And Mrs. Geo. Schreiber of Ft. Atkinson.
