Funeral services for Nels O. Wemark, who passed away Tuesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Lomen in Northfield, Minn. were held at the Lincoln Lutheran church at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon. The pastor, Rev. M. B. Quill officiated. The pallbearers were Iver Anderson, Orville Anderson, Emil Anderson, John Doerr, Leonard Wemark and Morris Wemark.

Nels O. Wemark died Tuesday afternoon after a sudden stroke occurring Saturday morning preceding his death. He never regained consciousness after falling into a coma after the stroke. He had been in excellent health until three months previous to his last illness after which time he had been confined to his bed.

Nels Wemark was born on Feb. 18th, 1849 in the Muskego district near Milwaukee, Wis., and was baptized in the Muskego church. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Ole Wemark. In 1855 he came to Winneshiek county with his parents and settled on a farm near Ridgeway. He received his education in a rural school in Lincoln township and at the old Breckenridge business school at Decorah. On April 4, 1879, he was married to Anne Marie Alfson of Ridgeway at Decorah. They were the parents of two children, Evelyn (Mrs. George Lomen), of Northfield, Minn., and Oscar O. Wemark of Decorah. In 1875 the couple moved to Sioux Falls, S. D., where he was employed as a salesman for an implement and machine company. He worked with this company for 19 years maintaining a farm at the same time. He then returned to Ridgeway to work the home farm as his parents retired at that time. He farmed until 1918 when he retired from active farming to live in Ridgeway. Mr. and Mrs. Wemark made their home here until Mrs. Wemark’s death in 1936. He then went to live with his daughter, Mrs. Lomen in Northfield, where he has lived until his death. Nels Wemark was the next to the oldest in a family of 15 children, all of whom have preceded him in death. Surviving him are his two children, Mrs. George Lomen and Oscar Wemark, 5 grandchildren, Adelaide Lomen, Mrs. Adolph Stenseth, Mrs. Vincent Viezbicke, Nohman Wemark and Annette Wemark and two great grandchildren, David and Paul Stenseth.
