Mrs. Julia Moe

Funeral Services for Mrs. Julia Moe who died at one o’clock Sunday afternoon in Mercy hospital were held Tuesday afternoon. Services were held at the Bradley funeral home at one o’clock and at two o’clock at the Lincoln church southeast of Cresco in Winneshiek county. Burial was in the Lincoln cemetery.

The Rev. Quill of Ridgeway officiated, the church choir sang the hymns “Abide With Me” and “Rock of Ages” and a girls trio sang “Just As I Am.” Irene Hove was the organist.

Fred Albertson of Cresco, Marion Ringeon, Melvin Albertson, Herman Albertson, Theo. Hopperstad and Helmer Gunhus were pallbearers.

Julia Hopperstad was born in Winneshiek county, Jan. 1, 1866, the daughter of Ole and Anna Hopperstad. She was confirmed by the Rev. Nils Branet in the Lincoln church.

On July 31, 1887, she was united in marriage with Thomas Moe by the Rev. Larsen in Decorah. To this union eight children were born. Lena died in infancy and Oscar died fifteen years ago. Surviving are Amy who is Mrs. Rollie Kratz; John, William, Ernest, Orestes and Alida, who is Mrs. Oliver Durfey. Mr. Moe died March 18, 1934.

Mrs. Moe lived to the age of 75 years. The greater part of her life was spent in Ridgeway. She lived for two years at Slayton, Minn., one year in Kansas and for the past five years she made her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mrs. and Mrs. Durfey in Cresco. She was a patient sufferer, a kind and loving mother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Her passing is mourned by her six children, thirteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, three sisters and one brother: Mrs. George Albertson and Mrs. Ole Linde of Ridgeway; Mrs. Lena Albertson, Sturgis, S.D., and Iver Hopperstad of Decorah. There are also other relatives and a host of friends.

Attending the funeral from a distance were William Moe, Kewanee, Ill.; Mrs. And Mrs. John Moe, Northfield, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Rollie Kratz, Lime Springs; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Moe, Preston, Minn.; Mrs. Mary Hopperstad and Mrs. Donald Biel and children of Fairmont, Minn.; Mrs. Elling Olson, Austin, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Willard Moe, Delores Moe, West Union; Mrs. Sarah Kratz, Calmar.
