Norma J. Townswick, age 77, of Decorah, IA, died peacefully following a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s disease on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at Winneshiek Medical Center Hospice in Decorah. She rests now with her Lord and Savior, Jesus.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 21, 2006 at Madison Lutheran Church, rural Ridgeway, IA, by Rev. Steven M. Jacobsen. Private Family inurnment will be in Madison Lutheran Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Friday, October 20, 2006 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, and after 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the church.

Norma Jean (Jordahl) Townswick was born October 9, 1929, in Dallas, TX, the daughter of the Reverend V.T. and Norma (Johnson) Jordahl. She was baptized at Central Lutheran Church in Dallas and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, IA, where she attended the first three years of high school. In 1946 her family moved to Bode, IA, where she completed high school, graduating with the class of 1947.

In 1952 Norma received a B.A. (cum laude) in elementary education from Luther College. Although her teaching career was short (one year in Northwood, IA and one year in Cedar Rapids, IA) her love for children never waned.

Norma was united in marriage to Stanley C. Townswick on June 7, 1952 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City, IA. She devoted most of her adult life to providing a loving and supportive home for her husband, Stan, and their four children.

Norma will be remembered for her strong interest in child development, nutrition, furniture restoration, hiking and nature activities, reading, and religious studies.

She was preceded in death by her parents, V.T. and Norma Jordahl; a brother, Rodger S. Jordahl; a sister-in-law, Margrete Jordahl; and a son-in-law, William A. Dolid.

Norma is survived by her husband, Stanley; her children: Ann Townswick of Minneapolis, MN, Mary Townswick of Islamabad, Pakistan, Samuel (Mette Hammer) Townswick of Decorah, and Andrew Townswick of Decorah; two brothers: the Reverend Daniel J. (Joan) Jordahl of Decorah and Dr. V. Truman (Patricia) Jordahl of Roanoke, VA; three sisters-in-law: Thelma G. Townswick of Humboldt, IA, Opal J. Shipman of Dakota City, IA, and Marie Jordahl of Bonners Ferry, ID; and six grandchildren: Gabriel (Laurie) da Silveira, Jordan Pace, and Ashlee, Emily, Christopher and Anna Townswick.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Winneshiek County, 901 Montgomery Street, Decorah, Iowa 52101.
