Rose Riha, age 83, of Fort Atkinson, Iowa, died on Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, January 16, 2011 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, Iowa, with Rev. Nick March presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call on Sunday from: 2:00-6:00 p.m., and also on Monday morning until 10:00 a.m., at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel, Fort Atkinson, IA. There will be a rosary at 4:00 and a scripture service at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Rose Mary (Schlichte) Riha was born on December 27, 1928, the daughter of Joseph and Agnes (Bruess) Schlichte, in Waucoma, Iowa. Rose graduated from Waucoma High School. She was united in marriage to Donald Riha on June 1, 1953, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waucoma, Iowa. Together they farmed west of Fort Atkinson for many years. Rose enjoyed baking, gardening, playing cards, the cardinal songbird and going to the boat to gamble. Rose entered the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Sept. 2008. Rose was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson.

Rose is survived by her husband: Donald Riha, Fort Atkinson, IA. Two daughters: Patricia Welsh, Chapman, KS, and Connie (Ron) Lensing, Calmar, IA. Five grandchildren: Lee (Kim) Welsh; Kelly (Patrick Hemmelgarn) Harold; Craig Welsh, Tara (Tory) Jarchow and Troy (Bobbi) Lensing. Eight great grandchildren: Robert Pigg, Haylee Welsh, Cody Harold, Aidan Welsh, Keagan & Jordyn Jarchow and Brady & Maya Lensing. Two great great grandchildren: Cadence & Jaedyn Pigg. Four sisters: Margaret Kleve, Waucoma, IA; Irene (Robert) Weigel, New Hampton, IA; Helen Woodard, Hawkeye, IA; and Lorraine Eichenberger, Ossian, IA. Three sisters-in-law: Anna Cook, Mabel, MN; Agnes (Arthur) Schmitt, St. Lucas, IA; and Marcie (Leroy) Schneberger, Festina, IA, along with many nieces and nephews.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents: Joseph and Agnes (Bruess) Schlichte. One great granddaughter: Jennifer Pigg. One brother: Edward Schlichte. Three brothers-in-law: Eugene Kleve, Tony Eichenberger and Orville Cook.
