Daniel A. “Art” Price, age 93, of Decorah, IA, died Sunday, May 16, 2010 at home in Decorah.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Burr Oak United Methodist Church in Burr Oak, IA by Rev. Mike Blevins with inurnment in Burr Oak Cemetery, with full military honors.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, one hour before services, at the Church. Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah is handling the arrangements.

Daniel Arthur “Art” Price was born March 30, 1917, the son of Henry and Lottie (Olson) Price, in his grandmother’s home in Burr Oak. He attended Burr Oak High School graduating with the class of 1936.

Art was drafted into the U.S. Army on January 31, 1942. He served overseas during World War II in the 117th Radio Signal Intelligence Company. Art served nearly four years without a single furlough, during which time he was sent to North Africa, Italy, Corsica, France, Germany and Austria. His unit narrowly escaped entrapment by enemy forces during the Battle of the Bulge. Art was honorably discharged on November 12, 1945.

He was united in marriage to Ruth Krumm on November 24, 1945 at Burr Oak United Methodist Church in Burr Oak. This union was blessed with two sons: Daniel and William.

Art and Ruth farmed near Burr Oak for nearly fifty years. They moved to Decorah in 1994. Art served on the Winneshiek County FHA committee for three years during the 1950s. He was a member of Winneshiek County Farm Bureau for over sixty years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Dean; and his granddaughter, Alison.

Art is survived by his wife, Ruth of Decorah; his two sons, Daniel (Amy) Price of Waverly, IA and William (Cindy) of Mission Viejo, CA; five grandchildren; Steven Price, Corey Price, Darcy (Ben) Schiess, Rebecca (Justin) Litterer and Nicole Price; and by three great-grandchildren; Nicholas Price, Samantha Price and Molly Litterer.
