Edna Arla Ruth (Carlsborg) Prestsater was born March 8, 1915 at her parents' home in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of George and Emma (Stevens) Carlsborg. She was baptized April 18, 1915 at First Lutheran Church, Decorah. In 1923 she moved with her parents to a farm in Glenwood Township at which time she joined the Glenwood Lutheran Church. She attended rural Winneshiek County schools and a year of high school. On May 4, 1930 she was confirmed at the Glenwood church by Pastor Brevik.

She was united in marriage to Arne Prestsater on July 9, 1939, at the Glenwood Lutheran parsonage by Rev. Alfred Bredesen. To this union four children were born: Arlin, Elizabeth, Ruth and Roy.

Edna was employed by F.W. Woolworth for several years. In 1940 Arne and Edna started farming with her parents, and in 1948 moved to their own farm. After her children were grown, she worked part-time at Noecker's Jewelry Store for 17 years, retiring in 1981.

Edna was a hard working farm wife, always having a large garden and helping her husband with chores. She especially enjoyed reading and willingly shared her many books with family and friends. She was also instrumental in publishing the Prestsater and Carlsborg family histories. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was always ready to share a joke or two.

She was a member of the Glenwood Lutheran Church, its Church Women and church circle. She was a former Sunday School teacher.

Edna became a resident of Wellington Place in October of 2006.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arne on July 6, 1996; a sister in infancy; a sister, Evelyn Pummill; two sisters-in-law, Arla Griesbaum and Clara Heath, and a son-in-law, Duane Engelhardt.

Edna is survived by her four children: Arlin and Janie Prestsater, Montclair, CA; Elizabeth and Jerry Cowan, Nicholasville, KY; Ruth and Kenneth Jauert, Decorah, IA and Roy and Deb Prestsater, Decorah.IA. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: James (Julie) Prestsater, Amy (Steve) Scherbarth, Greg (Paula) Cowan and David Cowan (fiancé, Melissa Wirt), Jeff Engelhardt and Brian (LaVona) Engelhardt, Elly (Brian) Lensch, and Kara (Nic) Zahasky, sixteen great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, ten step-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
