Donald Praska, age 63, of Jackson Junction, Iowa, died on Thursday, December 11, 2008, at the Scott Nature Institute in Strongsville, OH, following a sudden illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2008, at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Little Turkey, Iowa, with Rev. David Beckman officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Little Turkey, Iowa.

Friends may call from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel in Fort Atkinson, Iowa and also after 9:30 a.m. at the church on Thursday morning. There will be a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday.

Donald George Praska was born on February 24, 1945, the son of Leonard and Edna (Bouska) Praska in New Hampton, Iowa. Don attended and graduated from Turkey Valley High School in 1963. Don farmed on the family farm and worked for John Deere in Waterloo. He married Cheryl Emery in 1965, and to this union, three children were born: Scott, Stephanie and Jennifer. Donnie started organic farming and sold his produce and flowers at the Farmer’s Market in Decorah and Cresco. He specialized in melons on his nine acre patch.

Donnie’s survivors include his four children: Scott Praska, Orange, CA; Stephanie Easton, San Clemente, CA; Jennifer Praska, Newport Beach, CA; and Asa Waters, Postville, IA. Two sisters: Mary Lee (Greg) Timlin, Iowa City, IA and Jeannie (Dan) Meyer, Garden Grove, CA. One brother: David Praska, Emmett, ID; and ten nieces and nephews.

Donnie was preceded in death by his father: Leonard in 1988 and his mother: Edna in 2007.
