Herman Barker Passes On
Herman Charles Barker, son of Charles and Mary Barker was born in Delaware county January 9, 1882, and died on November 10, 1943, at the age of 61 years and 10 months.
He received his education in the public schools of Delaware county. He was married to America Jane Smith on December 25, 1906, and the new home was made on a farm near Manchester. After five years they moved to Friendship, Wis., where they spent three years. They then returned to Manchester and Mr. Barker attended an automotive school at Kansas City, Mo., from which he graduated two years later. They then lived in New Albin for nine years. Moving to Frankville, Mr. Barker operated a store for nearly a year and then moved to the farm which has since been their home.
Six children were born to this union, of which two died in infancy. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, four children, Mrs. Everet Wallace of Waukon; Warren, Thelma and Verle at home; two grandchildren, Kay Frances and Keith Charles Wallace; one sister, Mrs. Nick Birk of Conrad, Montana; three brothers, Melvin and Glenn of Wendel, Minn., and Will of Grey Eagle, Minn.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Wilton Sinning at the Community church here Saturday afternoon. The singing was in charge of the Frankville choir and consisted of the following selections: "No Night There," and "God Will Take Care of You." The singers were Mrs. Phil Brouillet, Mrs. E. R. Birdsell, Mrs. Walter Brandt, Mrs. Edna Bollman, Mrs. Arthur Brandt, Sarah Miller, Mrs. Lynn Crawford, Chris Waters, Walter Pilgrim and Arthur Brandt. Pallbearers were Edward Fitzpatrick, Ray Leas, Ray Runkle, Herman Rekward, Frank Fuller and Charles Ohloff.
Those attending the funeral from a distance were Melvin and Glenn Barker of Wendel, Minn.; Will Barker of Grey Eagle, Minn.; Ben, Charles and James Smith of Manchester; Mr. and Mrs. Will Meader and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Shaw of Delaware; Mrs. Edward Guetzgo of Earlville; Mrs. Nels Nelson of Manchester; Mrs. Albert Barr, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Maloney and family, Fred Martin and family and Mrs. Wallace, all of Waukon; Harry O'Donnell and Nick Colsh of New Albin; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fuller of Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Will Schultz and Mrs. Amanda Schultz of Ossian.
Burial was made in the Frankville cemetery.
